    About

    Bill Merante: vocals, guiar
    Paul Werkmeister: bass
    Stephen McMillan: gitar
    Gene Doyle: drums

Irwin reared its ugly head, kicking and screaming like a newborn baby in August of 1995. Since then, the band has made a name for itself by releasing a critically acclaimed 7" vinyl E.P. in 1996 and in 1997, unleashed itself in the digital domain by releasing a CD through Sin Klub Entertainment.

Irwins music is tough to describe but can best be summed up in the reviews of comparison. Their sound and songs have been likened to bands such as Radiohead, The Afghan Whigs, Weezer, Sunny Day Real Estate, The Cure, Dinosaur Jr., The Smiths, The Foo Fighters, The Smashing Pumpkins, Hum, Jawbox and The Police. The band prides itself on its diverse nature though, fusing elements of hard and heavy music with a very melodic approach...looking to create somewhat of a niche of their own.

The band, whom adopted their name when two members closed their eyes and pointed to a map of western Pennsylvania, quickly gained recognition by opening for such artists as The Deftones and Ten Foot Pole.
Making up the band are three unique musicians who pride themselves on creativity as well as musicianship and solid songwriting.

The fingerless guitar playing and unique, yet catchy, melodic vocals of Bill Merante; the awe inspiring, bass playing of Paul Werkmeister; and the solid, intricate percussion of drummer Gene Doyle combine to make up the solid ground of Irwins music.

The bands cd can be heard at many radio stations across the country. The song Sunday Driver has been getting regular play on many commercial alternative radio stations, while the cd has seen regular college airplay. This has combined to create a buzz about the band that has included opening slots for Murphys Law, Ten Foot Pole, The Deftones, Jonathan Fire Eater, Grade, Appleseed Cast, Cross My Heart, Error Type 11, Kill Holiday, Brandston, Planes Mistaken For Stars, Garrison, Rainer Maria, The Axis Set & Edison among others. Irwin has also been featured on live radio broadcasts and showcased at national events such as The Musician Magazine/ Ticketmaster Music Showcase.
